Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

If I love doing something, there’s nothing in the world that will stop me from doing it. Case in point: I grew up drawing on the walls of my house, much to the chagrin of my parents, who had to repaint the interior before they could sell it. Though I no longer use crayons to express myself, I still have that passion today for creating beautiful images.

I now use a camera to capture what would otherwise be fleeting moments between two people sharing in the excitement of beginning a new life together. There is little else that can evoke such strong emotion and bring back cherished memories as a well-composed photo, and I aim to capture just that with each one I take. I want my images to hold a special place in your heart for years to come.

I feel honored to be present at such a significant time in my clients’ lives and hope you’ll invite me to become part of yours, too.

Sophie’s First Birthday

The Chen family had the privilege of attending baby Sophie’s first birthday party recently and it was such a grand affair! But I expected nothing short of spectacular since Sophie’s Mom is Linda of Grand Soirees. The neapolitan ice cream themed bash was so adorable and stylish! I couldn’t help but capture some of the...

Tanaka Farms

I wasn’t even sure this roll of film would turn out. I shot a roll of 120 on my Rolleiflex T while watermelon picking at Tanaka Farms and didn’t realize that I hadn’t fully latched the bottom of the camera until I had finished off the roll. I thought I’d have major light leaks, but...

Rollei Twin Lens Reflex

I bought an old Rollei Twin Lens Reflex camera off a friend of mine recently and shot a roll of expired Kodak Portra with it. I honestly had my doubts about whether I would get any decent shots with it because the camera is seriously nothing like I’d ever used before. I’m used to manually...

Lil People Big Personalities : Ronan & Chloe

I heard them coming long before I even saw them. Squeals of delight, unabashed giggles and little feet furiously pounding on the marble floors before they whizzed right by me straight to the lobby doors trying to get out. That was Ronan and his little sister Chloe. The cutest little kids with the big personalities....

Orange County : Ferguson Family Portraits

I had so much fun photographing the Fergusons! Originally, Cory contacted me regarding a family session while they were in town for a wedding (they’re both wonderful photographers!) and wanted it to be a surprise for his wife Samantha who’s a fan of my work. And then not 5 minutes later, I receive an email...

San Juan Capistrano Engagement : Sarah & Steve

Sarah and Steve are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They shared cupcakes with me and then gave me their balloons to take home to Ellie at the end of our session. And let me tell you, Ellie loves her balloons! So much so that the balloon came with us to dinner...

Tracy is one of my dearest friends. We’ve known each other for nearly 10 years now and share so many awesome stories. We’ve traveled to Tahoe, Vegas, and SF together. We shared a personal trainer at Boxing Works in Hermosa Beach that we called “Hot Trainer Joe” when he wasn’t around. We’ve worked together, we’ve...
