Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I'm a simple person who loves photographing people and spending time with my husband and two little girls, Ellie (4) and Emmeline (1). My girls are my world and every day I wonder how I became so blessed to be their Mama.

When I'm not behind the camera I love to knit and sew cute things for my girls and bake cookies. My husband likes to say I'm a granny at heart, but I like to say I'm a woman of many talents. ;)

I also enjoy snowboarding, traveling and immersing myself in books. One day I will conquer Cornice and get down without snowplowing my way. I dream of traveling to Greece, Italy and Paris one day, but I have yet to convince the husband that traveling abroad with two little ones would be aweome. I'd also love to go camping and show my girls the joys of a perfectly toasted marshmallow and walking barefoot through an icy cold creek bed. And although I said it would never happen, I now read most of my books on my iPhone or iPad instead of a book. Have kids and you'll soon realize the gift of a built in light and always having your book with you.

I'm based in Orange County, California and ocassionally travel for shoots.

Mommy and Me : Emmeline

Emmeline’s first birthday is fast approaching and it’s making me wonder where the last year went. I’m happy that I had the time to really enjoy and revel in her babyness, but I am going to be so sad to see her chubby rolls go. I’m incredibly thankful to have talented photographer friends like Connie...

Adjusting

Our baby girl at 5 weeks! I know I’ve been a bad blogger lately, but with Ellie I jumped right back into work shooting my first wedding just 2.5 weeks after giving birth and so this time around I’m allowing myself some time to really enjoy this newborn phase as it goes by in the...

emmeline grace

Emmeline Grace was born February 17, 2012 at 4:41 am weighing 6 lbs 15 oz and measuring 19″ long. She apparently couldn’t wait to be in Mommy’s arms because my labor from start to finish was just 2 hours 41 minutes! We made it to the hospital just in time. I was induced a week...

On to Baby : What’s in Your Diaper Bag?

Two weeks. I can’t believe I have just two weeks left until my due date! I’m hoping this time around that I will go into labor on my own as I do not want to be induced again, but at the same time I want her to stay put for another week until my Mom...

Ellie as Dorothy

She had never seen The Wizard of Oz, but she fell in love with the little fuzzy dog in a basket when we were out shopping for a potential Halloween costume for Ellie. From there we found her a wig that she adored in the store and a costume was born. I didn’t really like...

Little Teasers & Updates

While I was in Hawaii having the time of my life, my dear husband single handedly transitioned Ellie into her own room and her own bed. There are still some occasional tears and wakings through the night, but I am so proud of them both! My time away solidified their Daddy/Daughter relationship and it is...

Reflections of Me

I laughed out loud when I saw this picture. This is totally me. I was never aware that I made such a face, but I’ve seen myself captured in other people’s pictures with this exact same look on my face too many times to count. It’s cute on Ellie. On me? Not so much. But...

San Francisco : Personal

Some time last year, the family and I flew up to San Francisco with our friend Connie M Chung. We were up in the Bay Area to shoot a wedding, but we also took some time to drive around the city and find places to shoot the moment we flew in. It was seriously so...
