Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

If I love doing something, there’s nothing in the world that will stop me from doing it. Case in point: I grew up drawing on the walls of my house, much to the chagrin of my parents, who had to repaint the interior before they could sell it. Though I no longer use crayons to express myself, I still have that passion today for creating beautiful images.

I now use a camera to capture what would otherwise be fleeting moments between two people sharing in the excitement of beginning a new life together. There is little else that can evoke such strong emotion and bring back cherished memories as a well-composed photo, and I aim to capture just that with each one I take. I want my images to hold a special place in your heart for years to come.

I feel honored to be present at such a significant time in my clients’ lives and hope you’ll invite me to become part of yours, too.

Sophie’s First Birthday

The Chen family had the privilege of attending baby Sophie’s first birthday party recently and it was such a grand affair! But I expected nothing short of spectacular since Sophie’s Mom is Linda of Grand Soirees. The neapolitan ice cream themed bash was so adorable and stylish! I couldn’t help but capture some of the...

Tanaka Farms

I wasn’t even sure this roll of film would turn out. I shot a roll of 120 on my Rolleiflex T while watermelon picking at Tanaka Farms and didn’t realize that I hadn’t fully latched the bottom of the camera until I had finished off the roll. I thought I’d have major light leaks, but...

Where have I been?

I know I’ve been MIA lately. Bad Sarah, Bad! Not only is it peak wedding season, but while researching and getting bids for new flooring for our house which we planned on starting this winter, we came upon such an incredible deal that we ended up jumping on it. Like signed the papers, paid the...

In the Blink of an Eye : Ellie

Tiffany commented on the post below asking, when did Ellie get so big? And it got me thinking….where did the time go? It’s already August and the year seems to have flown by.  My favorite sounds are Ellie’s little feet walking through our house. Her feet on the tile sound like little suction cups when...

Rollei Twin Lens Reflex

I bought an old Rollei Twin Lens Reflex camera off a friend of mine recently and shot a roll of expired Kodak Portra with it. I honestly had my doubts about whether I would get any decent shots with it because the camera is seriously nothing like I’d ever used before. I’m used to manually...

Friends with Cameras : Headshots

A few  friends and I met up at Caroline’s office in Pasadena and got beautified by Clara Kim and Stacey Bisel so that we could take some fun head shots of each other before heading over to the Your Wedding Day party in Century City.  We figured we’d be getting dressed up anyways, so why...

Home Away From Home

I’m leaving tonight for the Bay Area where I’ll be shooting a wedding tomorrow, but wanted to leave you all with some images from my last visit home. It had been a while since my family had seen Ellie so we flew up and spent a few days at home. I only brought my Contax...

Trystan’s 2nd Birthday

For Trystan’s 2nd birthday, his parents rented a huge van and shuttled 4 families along with all 5 of our babies to the San Diego Zoo to spend the day. It was a huge undertaking, but a fun one. The kids did great in the van. The weather in SD was perfect and the kids...

A Day in the Life of Ellie : Film

I purchased a Canon 1v which is a 35mm film camera and shot  a couple rolls of film to test it out. These were shot on Kodak 400 film that was included with the camera. The colors are more vibrant,  saturated and warm compared to the Fuji stock I usually shoot on. And of course,...
