Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I'm a simple person who loves photographing people and spending time with my husband and two little girls, Ellie (4) and Emmeline (1). My girls are my world and every day I wonder how I became so blessed to be their Mama.

When I'm not behind the camera I love to knit and sew cute things for my girls and bake cookies. My husband likes to say I'm a granny at heart, but I like to say I'm a woman of many talents. ;)

I also enjoy snowboarding, traveling and immersing myself in books. One day I will conquer Cornice and get down without snowplowing my way. I dream of traveling to Greece, Italy and Paris one day, but I have yet to convince the husband that traveling abroad with two little ones would be aweome. I'd also love to go camping and show my girls the joys of a perfectly toasted marshmallow and walking barefoot through an icy cold creek bed. And although I said it would never happen, I now read most of my books on my iPhone or iPad instead of a book. Have kids and you'll soon realize the gift of a built in light and always having your book with you.

I'm based in Orange County, California and ocassionally travel for shoots.

Jessica & Eddie’s Wedding

I loved so much about Jessica and Eddie’s wedding. They decided to do their first look and portraits at LACMA where they had the cutest first look moment ever! Eddie’s Mom shed tears throughout the ceremony which brought me to tears. And had me wondering if I’d be the same way when Ellie gets married. […]

Tanaka Farms

I wasn’t even sure this roll of film would turn out. I shot a roll of 120 on my Rolleiflex T while watermelon picking at Tanaka Farms and didn’t realize that I hadn’t fully latched the bottom of the camera until I had finished off the roll. I thought I’d have major light leaks, but […]

Where have I been?

I know I’ve been MIA lately. Bad Sarah, Bad! Not only is it peak wedding season, but while researching and getting bids for new flooring for our house which we planned on starting this winter, we came upon such an incredible deal that we ended up jumping on it. Like signed the papers, paid the […]

Pasadena City Hall Engagement : Sharon & Brian

I met Sharon and Brian for the first time at their engagement session in Pasadena a couple of weeks ago and was greeted with such great big smiles that I just knew we’d hit it off right away. I loved hearing how Sharon and Brian met each other! Remember that Sex and the City episode […]

You may recognize these two from their awesome San Francisco engagement session a while back! Alycia and Albert booked me for two engagement sessions with their wedding package. One in San Francisco which was more edgy and urban and then they recently traveled to my neck of the woods for a dressed up, stylish session […]

In the Blink of an Eye : Ellie

Tiffany commented on the post below asking, when did Ellie get so big? And it got me thinking….where did the time go? It’s already August and the year seems to have flown by.  My favorite sounds are Ellie’s little feet walking through our house. Her feet on the tile sound like little suction cups when […]

Rollei Twin Lens Reflex

I bought an old Rollei Twin Lens Reflex camera off a friend of mine recently and shot a roll of expired Kodak Portra with it. I honestly had my doubts about whether I would get any decent shots with it because the camera is seriously nothing like I’d ever used before. I’m used to manually […]

Friends with Cameras : Headshots

A few  friends and I met up at Caroline’s office in Pasadena and got beautified by Clara Kim and Stacey Bisel so that we could take some fun head shots of each other before heading over to the Your Wedding Day party in Century City.  We figured we’d be getting dressed up anyways, so why […]
