Sarah K Chen Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

I'm a simple person who loves photographing people and spending time with my husband and two little girls, Ellie (4) and Emmeline (1). My girls are my world and every day I wonder how I became so blessed to be their Mama.

When I'm not behind the camera I love to knit and sew cute things for my girls and bake cookies. My husband likes to say I'm a granny at heart, but I like to say I'm a woman of many talents. ;)

I also enjoy snowboarding, traveling and immersing myself in books. One day I will conquer Cornice and get down without snowplowing my way. I dream of traveling to Greece, Italy and Paris one day, but I have yet to convince the husband that traveling abroad with two little ones would be aweome. I'd also love to go camping and show my girls the joys of a perfectly toasted marshmallow and walking barefoot through an icy cold creek bed. And although I said it would never happen, I now read most of my books on my iPhone or iPad instead of a book. Have kids and you'll soon realize the gift of a built in light and always having your book with you.

I'm based in Orange County, California and ocassionally travel for shoots.

Langham Hotel Wedding : Jessica and Harry

There was so much beauty to behold at Jessica and Harry’s wedding, it reminded me of why I love what I do so much. I’m not just talking about just physical beauty (though there was plenty of that!), but the beauty behind the all the little moments that day. Laughing and crying, while reading letters […]

The McElroy Family

This is my sister in law’s beautiful little family. I still remember the day Crystal called to say they had a surprise. I yelled, “You’re pregnant!” into the phone, so excited for her and her husband Connor. There was a nervous laugh and a dramatic pause before she replied, “Well, that’s not all….we’re having twins!” […]

The Oh Family

You know what amazed me about the Oh’s family session? Even with three young children, every frame I shot of this family was a keeper. I shot one roll of 220 film and all 32 frames made it into their gallery. It probably helps when Dad is also a photographer and Mom is one of […]

The Phatiphong Family

Jenn and I followed each other on Instagram and knew of each other through mutual friends for years before we finally met in person. We met at a park in Pasadena and while I was kid free that day, Charlie was with Jenn and after spending some time playing and chatting with them I remember […]

The Glonchak Family

One of the greatest parts of my job is being a part of peoples lives when big things happen. I get to photograph their engagements, the day they begin their new lives as husband and wife, and their future babies and families. I love seeing my couples come back as Moms and Dads and getting […]

The Hong Family

My beautiful friend Katherine and her perfect little family! There’s so much I can say about the Hong family…like how my dear friend has the most amazing Australian accent ever.  This is slightly embarrassing, but I end up thinking all my thoughts with an Aussie accent for a couple of days whenever I spend any […]

The Chien Family

I met Jenny and Andy about 6-7 years ago on a snowboarding trip to Mammoth. It had been a while since I’d been snowboarding and I was really excited to hit the mountain the next morning with a bunch of old and new friends. It wasn’t until the next morning that I found out that […]
